K-12 Outreach

The CLACS K-12 Outreach Program strives to bridge New York University’s innovative Latin American and Caribbean-related research with a broader community of educators in New York City. Drawing on the multitude of disciplinary strengths found at NYU, we disseminate expert resources to area educators and support local curriculum development to strengthen the Latin America content in K-12 classrooms. We make CLACS resources available globally through our website and blog.

CLACS K-12 outreach initiatives promote intercultural dialogue, historical understandings of contemporary global issues, and a sense of global citizenship in today’s student population. We collaborate with several other New York educational and cultural institutions to support teacher training, bilingual education enhancement, and curriculum development. We also publish links to resources for educators, and make Latin American and Caribbean-related curricular materials available on our website. Through our Teacher Residency Program, select New York City teachers are paired with NYU faculty, work with NYU staff and have access to library resources to develop classroom materials which are included in these curricular materials. CLACS hosts events for K-12 educators, and also supports the initiatives of partners around the city. K-12 educators are also always welcome at any of our free, public events. CLACS also partners with local schools who are interested in hosting graduate students as guest lecturers.
