Caribbean Institute
The CLACS-NYC Caribbean Institute was launched in 2009 as a material and virtual resource to promote regional training and outreach related to the peoples and countries of the Caribbean. The Institute draws upon the depth of expertise among CLACS Affiliated Faculty across the NYU campus, current research at various higher education institutions in New York City, as well as a vibrant community of Caribbeanists in New York City. The newly consolidated Institute aims to bring together faculty, students, research, academic debate, and outreach resources in a useful and globally accessible manner on the website, including videos of major research events and public events held at CLACS. The Institute will promote Caribbean-focused courses events sponsored by the successful Caribbean Studies Working group, which for two years has brought together graduate students, NYU faculty and scholars from around the world to discuss new topics of interest related to the region.. It will also host colloquia, conferences, and working groups, and at the same time, through its website, aims foster a virtual community for the diffusion of new research and dynamic dialogue to serve as a bridge among communities within the NYC region and between this region and the Caribbean countries.
