Andean Institute
The CLACS-NYC Andean Institute was launched in 2009 as a material and virtual resource to promote regional training and outreach related to the peoples and countries of the Andean region (following the Andean chain from Colombia through Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia, to Chile and NW Argentina). The Institute draws upon the CLACS commitment to Quechua language training, the depth of expertise on the region among CLACS Affiliated Faculty at NYU, and the large number of Andeanists at other NYC-area institutions, as well as the presence of a vibrant Andeanist and Andean community around the city. The newly formed Institute aims to bring together the community of scholars and the diasporic communities of Andeans and broader public interested in the region to foment innovative multi-disciplinary research and productive discussion of Andean realities past and present. The Institute will promote Andes-focused courses and Quechua language study. It will also host colloquia, conferences, and working groups, and at the same time, through its website, aims foster a virtual community for the diffusion of new research and dynamic dialogue to serve as a bridge among communities within the NYC region and between this region and the Andean countries.
