Alfonso Gonzales holds a B.A in Political Science and Latin American Studies from UCLA (2001), an M.A in Latin American Studies from Stanford University (2002), and a Ph.D. from the Department of Political Science at the University of California–Los Angeles (2008). He comes to NYU from the University of California – Los Angeles. Dr. Gonzales’s research focuses on contemporary migration control and migrant social movements in the U.S., Mexico and Central America. He has published on issues related to the War on Gangs in Central America, and his research has been used in federal immigration proceedings on behalf of Central American asylum seekers. Dr. Gonzales is currently working on a book manuscript and a series of related articles based on his dissertation entitled Anti-Migrant Hegemony in a Transnational North America.
